Programs, Activities & Events of NECANA

Pac-a-Picnic (PAP)
This program is a welcome initiative for new ADF families new to the AWMA. Families receive a
welcome hamper containing morning/afternoon tea, juice, coffee/tea/sugar/milk, fruit, cake and
a $20.00 meal voucher. The pack also contains cups, spoons, toilet roll and other essential items
designed to make the welcome pack disposable and easy to use. Due to privacy laws NECANA is
unable to access personal information relating to new families so we place a flyer in the DHA
welcome pack with PAP contact information.

NECANA Coffee Club (NCC)
This program is held weekly at a local children’s indoor play centre, Scrambles. For $2.00 the
attendees get to play all day if they wish. A NECANA representative is present between 10.00am
and 12.00 to meet and greet new members and chat with existing ones.
NECANA Magazine
This is a 90 page publication produced every month (except January). The magazine contains
articles, ADF and community information as well as advertising. NECANA uses the revenue from
advertising to finance the programs and activities that we run. Contained in the magazine is a
‘Product Register’ where ADF families running a home business can advertise for free.

Family Fun Day
This is an annual event hosted for ADF families by NECANA. Each year we choose a theme and
provide rides, entertainment, activities, show bags, morning tea & lunch and lucky door prizes.
There is absolutely NO cost to ADF families for this event. It gives our ADF families a great, fun
day out and the opportunity to catch up with others.

Teens in Action
This Program is run for ADF children in high school. NECANA, with funding through the FSFP
program and the assistance of the DTM provide three programs a year. These are age
appropriate activities that help ADF children to build on self esteem & relationships.
The Maxine Duroux Defence Community Spirit Award
Is an award given annually to the child of a currently serving Australian Defence Force member
(including Reserve) for their contribution to the school and/or local community in the area of
Community Spirit.
